Then shouldn't we be allowed to pick the programs we personally support? I do not believe my husband should have to work an extra 20 hours per week to support through his taxes the co-habitating couple with 4 kids on government welfare-why should they get $2000 per month in food stamps and $800 housing allowance.

I would rather support breast cancer research, Autism and feed those truly hungry like hurricane victims..that is where my tax dollars should go.

I bought the house, made improvements, and sold it under 2 years - but I sold it for less than what I paid for it because of the current market. Here is what I understand from the IRS:

1. If home is sold under 2 years and profit is made, then you must claim profit whether you lived in it or not.

2. If home is sold under 2 years and lose money, then you can only claim a loss if you did not live in the house.

It seems like a one-way street with the IRS. Is there anyway I can claim a loss on my taxes? How can the IRS prove I really lived in the home and not in my friends or parents home? There has to be some way around this, because I took a pretty hard hit financially with this property.

Thanks.

My girlfriend and I lived together in the same home for all of 2006. The home loan is entirely in my name, the title is in both of our names. How do we claim the interest paid on our tax returns? Basically, can she claim it at all? Can we split it? We both split the payments for the entire year of course. I'm just looking for the right answer WITH a reference. Though probably I'll just end up claiming it anyway and giving her half of whatever it does to my refund. Thanks folks!

Hi,

Could anybody tell me how much tax has to be paid on any gains produced by an online savings account? An average, a maximum or more precise data would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I filed my taxes at H and R block. The refund amount does not make any sence to me. I want to run them threw on taxACTonline.com! I want to just put my figures in and then cancell everything before submiting the information (as I all ready filed) Do you know if I can do that? Or any website that will let me just figure in what the refund amount will be?

Boy I know IRS is gonna come after me for this, but I havent filed for taxes in 7 years .. Really never I worked a lot of odd jobs but never had them long enough to file. I know the government is gonna come after me unless I use the IRS is illegal defense. Quite frankly, I would rather just file. So my question is could I file for the years I didnt file and pray they dont audit me or should I just get ready to go to jail?
