We sent it in a couple of weeks ago, and we marked it so that it would be direct deposit.

e.g.1 - a water bills 4th quarter statement spans 2005 / 2006. You have no idea what it cost during a given year, only by quarter.

e.g.2 - a credit card statement spans 2 years as well, but you do know when the expense incurred. For those expeneses incurred in late December and paid in early January, do they become a 2005 or 2006 expense?

How do I handle expense taxes in each case?

Okay...here is my situation.

I would like to know what kind of refund my husband and I can expect. Our total income for 2006 was really low...barely even $20,000. He is in the Army, and if you are a lower rank, the pay isn't great. But that's a whole different story. We both claimed 0 so the maximum amount was taken out of our paychecks. If we file jointly, what kind of refund can we expect? What other kind of information do you need to know before you could give me an accurate answer? Thanks!

Playing around with my deductions I found my refund increased $1300 when I deleted the child care credit of $17,044 (4 dependants). Am I doing something wrong?

I have a full time job where I participate in a 401K and contribute the maximum amount. I also work part time in my wife's sole proprietorship, but dont draw a salary. Can I sign up in the retirement plan in her company, get a salary, and contribute there too. If so, what are the limits, and is the financial advantage of this tax deferral offset by the higher social security tax that has to be paid on my income? Her SS tax is maxed out, so that her extra profit because of my zero salary does not create an extra SS contribution.

She died 12/11/06. Income was from Social Security, retirement, and an annuity. I did her taxes online for her for the last few years and she always got a refund (about $2000). Would like to file taxes and add the refund to her estate - is that allowable? Do I just file electronically as in the past?

We have been living together for the 2006 year. He makes twice as much as I do and I am a full time college student. Since we have an apartment together he pays over 60% of the household bills. We are not married but can he claim me as a dependant?

If I entered the exact same info from w-2, then why would they both give me different refund amounts? One of the says I get a refund from state and the other says I owe state. What is the deal with these things? Are they accurate?

I've always heard that if you make over $400 you have to file a return. My husband was told that you didn't have to file anything under $5000. Of course we're going to find out when we have our taxes done but I wanted to know if anyone else knew beforehand. Thank you

I know how Roth's work but I am trying to decide if I should use a Traditional or a Roth. I know one consideration is what you think your tax bracket will be at retirement. Here's the rub; if I am retired, I will not be making any money so I wouldn't be in a tax bracket, correct. So how much tax would be taken out of a Traditional when I am not making any money?

on a tax refund? A friend of mine told me she got $8,000 back last year. She has 2 kids, owns a house, makes under $40,000 a year and she's married but her husband doesn't work so won't file anything with his name on it. I was like wow that's good that she gets so much back.

I have 5 kids my husband works 2 full time jobs, he made a little over $40,000 last year. We only got back about 3,500. My husband carries all 5 of the kids on 1 of his jobs so they don't take alot of taxes out. Why do we get back so little?

Last June we bought a house and I thought that would probably end up getting more money back because of this but when I went to Jackson Hewitt ( where we always go) and explained our situation she told us that we wouldn't even get back 5,000. And that we don't qualify for earned income credit because we're over 38,500 but we could use child tax credit.

Does this sound right? Why do we get back so little?

Last year I was told I could deduct $5,000.00 without ever being asked for proof. If I donated more than that I should have records.

Is this true for this year? Please show me where it says so online if you find a place.

I'm a (and was in 2006) full-time MD resident, but my employer is in DE. My W-2 has state entries for MD and DE. Do I need to fill out an MD and DE state income tax form? Do I *also* fill out "credit for taxes paid to another state" for MD? Or do this inplace of a DE return?

He didn't read that you had to have a qualifying child in order to take this credit. What will happen when he files and he puts that he was getting that amount, but then he's going to have to put that he actually didn't have a qualifying child? Does anyone know? Will it just take away from any amount he was going to get back??
