ok so we live in SA, how much are you supposed to save for a deposit? we have no idea how much we should save. the thing is you don't only need deposit, but you need money for food, furniture, bills etc to be saved up also, so in the end you would need heaps!! how much did you save up before you moved in your first home?

Does that mean they expect me to generate my own credit report or what? I never had to do this before, but I was under the impression the criminal check, credit check, etcetera was performed by the other party. If this is the case, could you refer me to any professional standards?

I purchased my current home 5 years ago for 100K. I plan to sell it for 125K. I have added a pool, landscaping, new A/C and outdoor kitchen that cost me approximately 50K so my value increased due to money that I expended. Will I owe tax money on the 25K I made from the original purchase price?

My wife (53) and I (51) work for a company that provides our housing. We do not own any real estate. We have approx. $100,000 in our retirement 403K. and very little in taxable savings. I receive a pension of $18,000 per year from a former job. Besides this pension and our current employement, that is it. We can retire at 55. We want to buy a house in the next 4-5 years. Upon retirement Should we take a large portion from our 403K as a down payment or a small portion of say, 10%?. We expect to buy only a modest home in Texas.

Is it legal to not pay the last months rent when writing my notice to my landlord of intent to move? He got first and last months rent when I moved in and no security deposit. How do I include that in my notice to the landlord and do I need proof that he got first and last months rent when I moved in?

We need to improve our credit score. We have had a car loan for 2 years but now it is paid offf. Not sure if that will increase or decrease our credit score. Basically we have 2 years before we need to refinance and the terms of the morgage say that we can completely pay it off without fees 3 years into the morgage. So it works well for refinancing. What things should we work on creditwise and homewise to refinance in 2 years?

Here's our situation: Current house is 6 yrs old, good schools, o.k. neighborhood, but not the best. We like our house, but just a little too small. Everything is done, landscaping, and decorating. Currently on the market for 1 month with only 3 showings.
New house is brand new. Will need decorating and landscaping. It's in great neighborhood, good schools, Loads of space. My family could grow into this house. Do to builder discount, we're getting a great deal on this house. We close on it in June. Will lose 5,000 if we don't go thru with the closing. Since current house is not sold, we will have double mortgages, or we will have to look into renting it out.
I'm 36, my husband is 43, we have 3 young children. This is our dream house. My husband is starting to have second thoughts. What do you think.

We own our home. 3br 2ba . Lived there a year. a couple months ago my husband lost his job and now he has one but makes about 4 or 5 dollars less an hour. So now we realize we cant afford our house. So there is me and him, a 6 year old boy, and another boy on the way.......

we are selling our house... or trying to at this moment, and moving into a 2 br apt with 1 bath...... The 6 year old and the new baby will share a room.

I feel like a failure because we just bought a house and now we have to start all over at the bottom in an apt. again. and the boys have to share a room. I can't even have a baby nursery.

I know it'll be better because it's cheaper and in a year maybe we can buy another house that's not so expensive but i still feel sad. I mean, my son is changing schools and we can't sit in our back yard and chill. We had to sell our trampoline amoung other stuff that we worked so hard to get.

I know that there can be building or other regulations which prevent counting a loft bedroom. Do these include stairways, size, or anything else?
