It is clearly Harry and Voldemort, are they in the Great Hall? What are they reaching for? I have my ideas but was wondering if anyone had read anything explaining it for sure.

I read this book, (Can't remember the name of it) and in it there was this part that a girl was captured and totured. Her brother had to come and save her, but had to do all these challanges before he could get to his sister and bring he home safe. I really liked the idea, but is it against the law to use this idea but change it around, like instead of a girl being captured it could be a boy or her best friend or something like that, and instead of her brother coming to save her it could be her boyfriend or something like that, and have diffrient challanges. I really liked the idea, and I want to form it into a story I'm writing, It's not going to be all the same, just a diffrient version of this scene. Does anyone know if this is against the law, I want to use this idea, but I don't want to get into trouble.

Do you feel that we have moved on much since his time?

I mean the poverty and degradation of the lower classes, and the blatant hypocrisy of those who pretend to "help" them whilst preaching about the evils of the "idle and undeserving poor" (and living luxurious lifestyles themselves).

Dickens wanted to expose this in his works, along with expunging the idea that poverty and suffering were the result of "bad blood" rather than misfortune and lack of opportunity.

Sometimes, when I read posts in the politics section of here it seems that this view has never gone away!

They've made so many adpatations of this great novel.

But who would be your ultimate dream actors to play the two main characters?

Also, does anyone else think that Clive Owen was BORN to play Heathcliffe in Wuthering Heights or is it just me??!

Does it not seem kind of ridiculous?
Good thing Jules Verne went all the way around the world in 80 days, huh? Except...he didn't. Likewise, how cool was it when J.R.R. Tolkein was involved in that awesome war in Middle Earth? And how J.K. Rowling made those millions writing about her experiences at that wizarding school she went to? And Charles Dickens being that miser who hated Christmas but got totally turned around when those spirits visited him? Oh, wait...
The way I see it, if you're prepared to do the research and have an active imagination, literary greats have proved you can write about whatever you want.

Your opinion?

Over the summer I had to read Sleeping Freshmen Never lie for summer reading. I read it in mid-June before school had even gotten out.
Now, it's mid-August and I need to write about the book. I need to know one piece of advice Scott gives his unborn sibling that you don't agree with.
I would reread the book but I'm a slow reader and I wouldn't have early enough time to read through the entire book so don't yell at me and tell me to do my own homework.
Please and thank you!!! :)

Or is there a way around it?

Thing is some characters are shady, nasty and horrible and I would never ask their permission to use their names in the book because they would never agree - I would be airing their dirty laundry and exposing them to the rest of the world, where as they would rather remain scummy law breaking losers and be hidden from spot light.

I was going to simply change names around so none could be identified but would that be good enough?

I thought perhaps I would use my real name in the book as my real name is extremely unique and catchy and everyon else could have fake names to hide identities - by the time I finish the book there would have been many characters whose identity would need to remain anonymous so I figured I could give everyone different names -which I know can be done..

It is a tricky situation and I dont know much about it. How can I tell my story - which is yearning to be told and still protect all the bad guys reputations?

I like to do writing challenges, but somehow it just isn't any fun if I'm saying 'here lorraine, write a 100 word story based off the word 'caterpillar'. It's like, it is only a challenge when someone is waiting for me to send them my response. That I'm too lazy to want to write a romance blurb to the made up title "Tempting Secrets" even though the idea of doing a challenge like that thrills me. Why? Because I'm not the student or the teacher, I'm just...the one participant lol.

So, all that being said. Is there a place I can join online where you get writing challenges of all sorts and you have to submit your entry within a certain amount of time, or something similar like that? Not like you get judged on it or anything...but a deadline and a prompt that you didn't come up with. Do you know of anything remotely close to that? I know the Absolute Write Water Cooler has stuff like that, but do you know of anything else?
