Being a voracious reader and, for the past three years, a bookstore employee, I have had the opportunity to meet some great authors. Who have you met and what were they like?

My list:

Nathaniel Philbrick (lovely man, a little quiet)
Ray Bradbury (a real gentleman)
Robert Jordan (a little abrupt but I found out later he was sick at the time, so he can be excused)
David Drake (very nice)
Barry Eisler (a funny guy)
George RR Martin (looks like a garden gnomef; a sweet man)
Terry Brooks (lots of fun!)
Greg Keyes (very kind)
Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (Hickman is a riot!)
RA Salvatore (possibly the most personable, funny author I've worked with)

Yeah, I'm in charge of the SF/Fantasy section if you didn't guess...

I started this book and never finished. It was about someone on death row who received a presidential pardon. He was then taken out of the country and ended up in Italy where people were planning on killing him. I can't remember the title or author.

I''ve been writing an assortment of novels and short stories since sixth grade (Junior in high-school now) and am apprenticing in photography to help me get imagery down. Any tips about avoiding writer's block and sticking with an idea untill the end?

I sell books, I'm looking for info on what I should keep my eye out for. I know fantasy is big, and parenting stuff. What else? I can't sell Da Vinci Code forever.

There is a picture that shows a heart carved around couples, such as, Apollo and Daphne, Cupid and Psyche, Venus and Adonis, Pygmalion and Galatea, Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hero and Leander. But there is just a heart carved around Narcissus' name. The humor of the cartoon is that Narcissus loves himself. I need to write a well-developed paragraph of two hundred words that explains the humor in this cartoon. So far, I used about 125 words. What else can I add? Can you edit my paragrah and tell me what I can add?

Engraving their names onto the hard bark of a tree, love-struck couples express their devoting love for one another. A heart carves around one person’s name in particular, Narcissus. “His beauty was so great, all the girls who saw him longed to be his, but he would have none of them” (Hamilton 91). The stunning youth continues with his cruelty. The goddess of justice and vengeance, Nemesis, hears the prayers of the nymphs Narcissus scorns and decides to arrange the handsome lad to fall in love with himself. “As Narcissus bent over a clear pool for a drink and saw there his own reflection, on the moment he fell in love with it” (92).
The humor of this cartoon explains that Narcissus loves himself.
