I want to get some of my poetry published. I was wondering if enough people still read it, and if you are a young author/poet, have you ever been successfully published? How did that process work? Did people take your work seriously despite your age? Same goes for short stories, which I'm not as good at though.

I am a journalism student and I am a great lover of all literature and so I would like, just for my own amusement, at least for now, to write maybe short stories or little novellas. I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how to improve as a fictional writer. I spend alot of time writing reportive type essays for school and I also spend alot of time reading the classics. Both of these are probably great practice for writing, however, I am just wondering if there are any ways to really improve fictional writing. You know all, all of the great literary devices, character develepment, symbolism etc. Im just looking for some ways to improve besides the obvious continued reading of the classics.

Rain Drops

Rain beats on the window,
The mood becomes gloomy.

The rain is the tears of angels,
When something doesn’t go right.

And when the angels cry,
Everyone feels like crying.

Except the small children,
Who run and shout.

Their naivety is astounding,
Unaware that angels are weeping.

When the storm stops,
It seems a small miracle.

For God has cheered the angels,
As only He can.

So whenever the angels in Heaven cry,
They will always stop somehow.

That is the way of God,
And so look towards the sky and wait for the sun to shine.

What do you think? I made it up right now....

"The multiplying villanies of nature do swarm upon him, and fortune, on his damned quarrel, smiling showed like a rebel's whore."

It was in V for Vendetta and I beleive it's Shakespeare, but what writing is it in and what does it mean?

P.S. I've already got my ideas and have started the assignment, I just want to make sure that I'm not completely off course. Haha. And thanks in advance.

To explain, I had this old book I think the Penguin book of Ghost Stories. I was reading this story, but before I got to the end, I found someone had torn a few pages from the middle. I have never found the same story again (though I have tried to look for it), and have always wanted to get to the finish.
It was an old horror story, about a murder, the body being kept in a cask of wine. Where the victim's blood fined it so much, the detective investigating the missing man's disappearance thought it was delicious when he drank some. I think it was called 'The Wine Merchant', or something vaguely similar.
Do'es it sound familiar to anyone, ring any bells; anyone got any idea what it was called??

Any help appreciated. Thanx.

This is for a presentation in a high school class. I am interested in oriental studies, fashion, fantasy, or any classics. Anything along those lines would be great. If you could tell me the title of the book, author, and a brief summary of the book, that would be great! Thank-you.

I read some years ago, in a Internet site, a story titled something like "A view into the ninties", related to the Enoch Soames story by Max Beerbohm, The autor is Teller, the half of Penn and Teller. Now this story is restricted and available just for Atlantic magazzine members. If you, by any kind of lucky, has it..¿could you share it with me?...and the rest of the mortals?...

What would be your idea of a book paradise?

An island that consisted of nothing but libraries of millions of books just for you to read?

Truckloads of books sent to your house each day?

The possibilities are endless.............

I am looking for a book about a school shooting, preferably not Conlumbine. I want a book similar to the movie "Zero Day," where the shooters did it for a reason, not just attention.
