Suppose the world consisted of only the female sex and only a select few men were kept for purposes of reproduction - would the world be a less violent place or would women simply adapt and gradually become more aggressive? Would there be less cases of rape, violent crime/homicide? (Although I will likely offend people with this question that is not my goal. I am aware that women do commit crimes. HOWEVER, the percentage of women in prison for having commited a VIOLENT crime is far less than it is for men.)

I bet my friend that the title of Rush's song was YYZ, he claims that his dad (who played this song when he was younger in a band) said it was XYZ. Which is it, and why would his dad think it was XYZ? Is there something relating to Rush to think it was XYZ? Thanks.

Jesus was baptised by immersion when he was "buried" in the water. Why did the Catholic church make up their own version of baptism?

Let me give you the quote which is the genesis of this question:

In some ways I'm an Elitist. I do not believe that we are all entitled to our opinions. I do believe that we are all entitled to our informed opinion. - Harlan Ellison

I'm sure Ellison would agree that there are some things where everyone's opinion is pretty much equal - whether chocolate chip cookies are better before or after baking, for instance. (Although if you think they taste better after baking, you're obviously deranged.) On other matters, though, how informed you are obviously makes a difference. Einstein's opinion about relativity is better than mine. Stephen Jay Gould's opinion about evolution is better than any of ours.

So - what do you think?

And, before you report this (and I know at least one of you is thinking of that), "what do you think" is a question. I'm asking this here because it's the opinions of the habitues of this board about which I'm curious.

Today I hit two curbs at approximately 30-40 kmph, because my driving skills had a brain fart. The car drives like it did before, but the guy at the repair shop said the wheel wasn't completely straight. I knew it needed an alignment which is why I brought it in (turns to the right). But they said that they needed to fix something else.

(On a side note, I also went in because I needed to put a new muffler on anyways. And the bills said like 1000$, so I was like screw that and drove away. The bill seems to be for replacing most of the exhaust system, which though maybe ideal, doesn't seem required / I can't afford it anyways).

I guess my question is that if it drives like it did before, other than the misaligned tires, is it safe to drive in general? Would I notice something big / obvious if there was something big / obviously wrong with the car?

BTW: the car is an 1986 Volvo 240, which is known to be pretty sturdy.

My brother was just fired due to missing too many days of work within a 3 month period. He and his wife just had their second baby, he is only 2 weeks old, and she is suffering from post partum depression, because of this, she throws a fit every night when he has to go to work. Well last friday she begged him not to go because the baby was crying a lot. He called his job and talked to the secretary who told him that it was no big deal because he was worried that he might get into trouble for it, he would just get what they call a "black mark" and a verbal warning. So because she told him it was alright he called out. 3 days later he was called into the office and told that he was fired for missing too many days. He explained how he would have been here if the secretary had told him that he would lose his job if he wasn't here, but since she told him really not to worry about it, it would be fine, he stayed home. He has worked for this company for 7 years

I've been seeing and having sex with someone for the past month or so. I have fallen for him, but he is not interested in a long-term commitment. I know that he likes me, and I have a feeling that he could change his mind over time, but I can't stand the thought of not having a relationship with this man. We have amazing sex, which is very hard to walk away from, but I need more. As I'm writing this, I think I know what I need to do, but I would be curious to hear what you think. Please help!

hi, my best friend is in a bit of trouble. a few nights ago she totaled her car (she is incredibly lucky to be alive and even luckier that no one else was involved in the accident). At the scene she blew a .28!! and with her injuries she was taken directly to the hospital instead of to jail. i am not sure if or how the law differs if you are that far over the legal limit or if an accident was involved. I only know the ramifications of a "regular" dui. Would it be wise for her to hire an attorney? will it do any good? she has no prior record, will she be facing any jail time or other severe penalty like loss of license? thank you for any help or advice you can give.
